TOMPSETT, Mark and Charisma

Mark Tompsett says his life includes bits and bytes and the Way of Life. This alliteration describes the meaning behind his work as a software professional for Wycliffe Canada’s partner organizations. Mark’s role empowers staff across the globe in their literacy and translation ministries, which in turn leads to people knowing about Jesus through God’s word.

Mark became a member of Wycliffe in 2003. His first term overseas was in the Philippines.  It was there that he met and married his beloved wife Charisma and their son Ezra was born.

Mark’s initial work in the Philippines was maintaining various applications developed in Microsoft Access (a database management system). After this role, he transitioned into web-based development. During Mark’s second term in the Philippines, he installed open source library software called Koha. Mark maintained the installation which was branded as Teamwork Koha.

The Tompsett family now lives in Ontario, where Mark remotely develops web applications. Currently, his two major focuses are the Teamwork Koha Library and Mail Administration.  The library project, which started in the Philippines, has now expanded from Asia into use in Africa as well.  Mail Administration has the potential to impact everyone who sends corporate emails. While it’s based in USA, it has global impact.

Together with partners worldwide, these two projects are assisting Bible translation projects in languages that need it. Mark can’t think of a better legacy than the grace, peace, mercy, and love of God made known through a Bible written in one’s own heart language.
