FOSTER, Daniel and Ranette

Danny has served with Wycliffe Bible Translators since 2003. He and his wife, Ranette, have two boys, Josiah and Isaac. The Fosters began serving in Tanzania, where they helped implement language development and Bible translation projects for 19 indigenous communities through two language cluster projects.

In 2010 Danny became the director of training and development for SIL International in Uganda and Tanzania. In that role, he led a training program that served language projects across the region. Danny is also involved with local government, educational authorities and the international development community as an advocate for minority languages. He is currently involved in PhD research at the University of Bristol, investigating issues around implementing mother-tongue-based multilingual education.

In 2013, the Fosters returned to Canada to begin a new assignment; Danny now serves as president of the Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL). CanIL operates undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs in partnership with Trinity Western University in Vancouver and Tyndale University in Toronto. The training is designed with a focus on applied linguistics and prepares people to serve in language development and Bible translation efforts for minority language communities all over the world.
